PhD positions in Quantum Optics at Q*

PhD positions available at Q* centre on quantum science and technology in Arcetri.

Q*, located in Florence, Italy, is a joint research centre created by the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ), the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), the European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (LENS) and the University of Florence. Positions are available immediately, otherwise no later than September 1, 2013.

Please contact Dr. Karim Murr to find out more about current openings. Your theory work will cover the broad theme of cavity quantum electrodynamics to be performed in collaboration with the experimental group of Prof. Rempe at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, Garching, Germany. Keywords of Q* research includes, quantum optics, photonics, quantized light fields, optical resonators, laser cooling and trapping of atoms, optimal control, decoherence, cavity optomechanics, out of equilibrium quantum dynamics. There are positions either in computing or purely theoretical or both. You are welcomed to propose any idea you would like to pursue.

Your application will not be processed without the following information. Cover letter (one page, two at most) with answers to following questions: why do you want to join our group? What would you like to work on? Do you prefer numerical or analytical work, or both? Are you interested in a topic not listed in our description, if yes which one? Do you have specific requirements? Detailed Curriculum Vitae. Copy of bachelor and master transcripts and certificates.
