Two-electron quantum gases (Yb)
Two electrons are better than one... In our lab we produce Bose-Einstein condensates and degenerate Fermi gases of ytterbium atoms. These atoms offer metastable electronic states and large nuclear-spin manifolds, that can be controlled with metrological-grade techniques and long coherence times: a whole range of experimental possibilities that allow for the quantum simulation of new forms of quantum matter, from topological phases to exotic multicomponent SU(N) physics.
